Serendipity Arts Festival 2026: Panjim becomes a gallery for eight days
The 11th Serendipity Arts Festival runs 13 to 20 December 2026 across Panjim, Goa: visual arts, craft, food, music, dance and theatre in the city's heritage buildings and public spaces, free and open to the public.
Goa in December usually means the beach belt. For eight days in the middle of the month, the capital makes a different offer. The Serendipity Arts Festival returns to Panjim for its 11th edition from Sunday 13 to Sunday 20 December 2026, and the city itself is the venue: heritage buildings, public spaces and streets across Panjim hold exhibitions, performances, workshops and food, all of it free and open to the public. The organisers announced the dates with a curator led programme, which is the festival's signature: each discipline is shaped by a named curator rather than filled by open calls.
What is actually on
The disciplines are the point: visual arts, craft, culinary arts, music, dance and theatre, plus accessibility and special projects, curated as one programme rather than six small festivals sharing a car park. The 2026 edition also carries work in from the festival's year abroad: pieces presented in Venice and London come to Panjim, among them Eyes Shall Deceive, a work of 16mm film, live music and sound directed by composer Sneha Khanwalkar and artist Sudarshan Shetty. Registration runs through the festival's own site, and the day by day programme lands there first.
How to work Panjim for a week
Base in Panjim itself, not the beach belt, and walk. The venues sit within the old city's grid, so a day can hold a morning exhibition, a long lunch, an afternoon workshop and an evening performance without a car. The Latin Quarter lanes of Fontainhas carry the colour, the Mandovi riverfront carries the evening, and the Goa guide gathers what else the state is doing that week. December is also Goa's fullest month for stays, so the Panjim base is the booking to make early:
Pair it with the rest of Goa's December
Serendipity sits in a stacked Goan month. Earlier in December, the Feast of St Francis Xavier at the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa is expected on 3 December, a tentative date on this calendar, and the state's Christmas week follows the festival directly. Readers coming for film will already know the season's other pole, IFFI in November: Serendipity is the slower, walkable counterpart, eight days where the art is spread through a living city instead of a screening schedule. Give it at least three days. Panjim rewards the unhurried.
